Common Failure Symptoms
- Fault codes logged in battery management / cell supervision circuit
- One temperature probe reading significantly higher than the others
- Related faults logged in SME / EME due to the abnormal temperature signal

BMW i3 Diagnostic Report
Following an initial scan of all control modules, a recognised fault code was identified, indicating a temperature measurement issue within the high-voltage battery’s cell supervision circuit 3. Additional related codes were also logged in the SME and further entries in the EME. Temperature values were then reviewed, confirming one probe reading significantly higher than the others, pointing to a likely sensor or wiring issue.

BMW i3 Repairs
The high-voltage battery was removed and opened to allow targeted testing. Wiring checks confirmed a faulty temperature sensor on module 3. Three temperature sensors were replaced and the battery was reassembled and resealed, and a pressure test was completed to confirm integrity. An EOS Test was carried out, the A/C system was recovered and recharged, then the vehicle was rescanned to verify all temperature readings were normal and all faults were cleared.
- Removed HV battery and opened battery lid
- Tested wiring and confirmed faulty temperature sensor
- Replaced faulty HV battery temperature sensors
- Reassembled, resealed, and pressure tested HV battery
- Refitted HV battery and carried out system resets

Resolution
The abnormal temperature reading was resolved by replacing the faulty high-voltage battery temperature sensors. Post-repair checks confirmed consistent temperature probe readings, all related fault codes cleared, and the vehicle operated normally following a road test and an overnight charge.
Following the repair:
- All HV battery temperature readings returned to normal
- DTCs cleared with no reoccurrence on rescan
- The vehicle charged successfully and a road test was completed without issue
