HV Inverter Repairs & Overhauls

Specialist repair-first solutions for high-voltage inverters and power electronics.

Inverter Faults and Why They Matter

The inverter is one of the most critical high-voltage components in an EV or hybrid. It converts the battery’s DC power into three‑phase AC to drive the electric motor, and it also manages motor control under load. When an inverter develops a fault, the result can be anything from intermittent drivability issues to a complete no‑start.

At LKQ Electriq, we prioritise repair over replacement to deliver a cost‑effective, sustainable alternative that reduces waste and helps customers avoid unnecessary full unit replacement. We combine specialist diagnostics with a repair‑first mindset and technical expertise to identify the root cause and complete only the work that’s genuinely required.

Common Symptoms

Reduced power / limited performance

Reduced acceleration, limp mode, or “reduced power” messages. Performance may drop suddenly under load, especially during overtakes or hill climbs.

Warning lights and HV system alerts

EV system, drivetrain, or high‑voltage fault warnings. You may also see intermittent fault messages that clear after a restart, then return.

Intermittent cut‑out or drive not available

Loss of drive, “drive not available”, or intermittent shutdown. In some cases the vehicle may re-engage after cycling the ignition, but the issue typically worsens over time.

No‑start / HV system won’t come online

Vehicle will not ready up, or the high‑voltage system fails to engage. This can present as a complete no‑start even when the 12V system appears normal.

Vehicles Affected

We support inverter and high‑voltage power electronics repairs across a wide range of EV and hybrid platforms.

Examples of systems we commonly see in the workshop include:

  • Integrated motor + inverter assemblies (e.g., drive unit / e‑axle style systems)
  • Stand‑alone inverter power electronics units
  • Brand‑specific integrated inverter modules (vehicle dependent)

If you’re unsure whether the issue is inverter‑related, we can advise on next steps and booking for diagnosis.

What's Included?

Root‑cause diagnostics (repair-first)

We start with systematic diagnostics to confirm whether the inverter is the true root cause, or if the issue is being triggered by an other underlying fault.

High‑voltage safety checks

Where appropriate, we carry out isolation checks to confirm the HV system is safe and to help identify insulation breakdown‑type faults.

Targeted repair or refurbishment

Based on findings, we repair at component or sub‑assembly level where feasible, aiming to avoid full unit replacement.

Seals, gaskets and ingress prevention (where applicable)

On certain high‑voltage drive units, common failure modes relate to coolant or moisture ingress. Where relevant, we apply proven preventative measures to reduce repeat failures.

All work is backed by a 12-month warranty covering both parts and labour, giving you peace of mind and confidence in the quality of our service.

Excellent service from a group of very knowledgeable technicians. If you have a fault with your EV or Hybrid I would not hesitate recommending.
