High-Voltage Heaters
High-voltage heater repairs & replacements
High-voltage heater failure
High-voltage (HV) heaters (often coolant heaters or PTC heaters) are used to heat the cabin and support functions like demisting/defrost and pre-conditioning. When they fail, the vehicle can lose cabin heat entirely, pre-conditioning may stop working, and you may see an “HV heater fault” or wider high-voltage system warnings.
At LKQ Electriq we carry out specialist diagnostics on the HV heater, the heating/coolant circuit, and the vehicle’s control strategy to pinpoint the root cause, then repair or replace the failed heater module/unit and validate correct operation.

Common Symptoms
No warm air from vents
Cabin controls are set to heat, but the air stays cold. This often points to an HV heater/coolant heater not operating.
“HV heater fault” or high-voltage warning
Some vehicles display a specific HV heater warning; others show a more general HV system message.
Poor demist / defrost and no pre-conditioning
Windows don’t clear properly and pre-conditioning may fail or perform poorly in cold temperatures.
Intermittent or weak heating performance
Heating may respond slowly, cut out, or never reach normal cabin temperature — especially in low ambient temperatures.

Vehicles Affected
- This can vary by make/model and model year.
If you’re unsure, contact us with your registration/VIN and symptoms and we’ll advise the best next step.
What's Included?

Specialist HV heater and coolant system diagnostics
We inspect the HV heater and heating/coolant circuit, review heating system performance and status, and assess related components (where applicable).

Root cause identification
We isolate the failure to the specific module/unit or supporting cause (rather than guessing or replacing parts unnecessarily).

Repair or replacement of the heater unit/module
Our first option is always to repair a component where possible. Where replacement is required, we remove and replace the defective heater unit/module and reinstall components to OEM-level standards, using tested recycled OEM parts.

System checks, resets, and commissioning
We check the vehicle’s heating system, high-voltage circuits, and controls, complete any required resets/commissioning in line with specialist EV/Hybrid protocols, and verify correct heating performance (including cabin heat, pre-conditioning, and demist/defrost).
All work is backed by a 12-month warranty covering both parts and labour, giving you peace of mind and confidence in the quality of our service.
I would like to add that I found the set up extremely professional and whoever I engaged with was polite and more than ready to help with my enquiry. A really great independent set up that is desperately required by the general public given the poor support and hideously expensive Main Dealer options available.
