The following fault code(s) may be present

There were too many fault codes stored on the vehicle initially to give a clear diagnostic direction.

Affected Vehicles

PHEV Range Rover
  • Various models

Common Failure Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights at start-up, including brake system, emergency brake, hill-descent control
  • Brake pedal feel is reduced or “spongy”, not providing the firm response expected
  • The vehicle may lose power or shut down unexpectedly due to the fault condition
  • No clear fault codes initially; issues can stem from auxiliary battery or control-module lack of communication rather than only mechanical brake components

Brake System Fault in PHEV Range Rover Sports

PHEV Range Rover Diagnostic Report

The vehicle presented with the Range Rover brake system fault: it had multiple warning lights, spongy brake feel and intermittent power loss. The first step was a full fault scan, but the stored codes were too numerous and non-specific to pinpoint the root cause. The team then looked into live data and discovered that the Brake Control Module B lacked communication, although wiring and connectors checked fine. Battery test via diagnostic tool revealed the auxiliary battery “Battery 2” had faults. Based on this, the suspected fault domains were the BMM/BCM or auxiliary‐battery supply/distribution box.

PHEV Range Rover Repairs

The repair involved replacing both the low-voltage auxiliary battery (Battery 2) and the Battery Charge Control Module (BCCM) to restore correct supply to the brake system control module. After the parts were replaced, the BCCM was reprogrammed to prevent future auxiliary battery failures and module communication faults.

Resolution

Following the repairs, the Range Rover brake system fault was resolved. The warning lights cleared, the brake pedal feel returned to normal, charging function was restored, and the vehicle returned to the customer in full working order.
